Cedar Kyes – Bellingham, WA / San Francisco Bay, CA
I’ve been riding bikes since I first discovered the freedom and independence that comes with life on two wheels. Riding across town to school and then skipping school to go ride trails in Forest Park, I was hooked and I never looked back! I started racing Downhill and Freeriding back when few people even knew what that was. As technology evolved to more current trail bike standards and my priorities shifted, I found the perfect balance of adrenaline and adventure in the form of Super D and Enduro racing. That path has taken me to some amazing places and I’ve met some of the greatest people along the way!
The next chapter has been filled with even more adventure as I discovered the wonders of bikepacking and the freedom that comes with riding off into the wild with everything you need to survive for a few days or more. I have always wanted to tour by bike but the mountain biker in me is deathly afraid of riding in traffic on narrow roads. So, backcountry touring on trail worthy adventure bikes has allowed me to finally realize my dreams of riding off into the unknown.
Luckily, I have been able to make a living in the bicycle industry by working in shops, becoming a sales representative, and eventually creating a new position which allows me to engage more with the public and get creative with marketing and events up and down the West Coast. What started as a way to support my bike addiction and keep myself away from a desk job has turned into a real career. I have been fortunate enough to connect with some amazing people and work with some great companies along the way. Now, I lead demo rides for Advocate Cycles and Lupine Lights and I have helped pioneer the Kali Road Warrior Program for Kali Protectives. This allows me to make a lasting impact and help spread the stoke for riding bikes! You can follow along on my adventures by finding me on Instagram – @cedrocosta. Hope to see you out there!
